Wang Ga Ma is a straightforward Korean restaurant tucked inside Coquitlam’s Hanim Shopping Centre, known for serving hearty, traditional dishes with a focus on soups, stews, and stone bowl meals. Its compact interior was recently refreshed to feel cleaner and more modern, making an otherwise modest space feel welcoming rather than cramped. If you’re in the mood for spicy, piping-hot comfort food or a satisfying cold noodle dish on a warmer day, this spot delivers that home-style Korean flavor without fuss.

Wang Ga Ma’s menu is ideal for those seeking authentic Korean staples such as Spicy Braised Galbi Jjim (braised short ribs) and various rich, slow-cooked soups like the YukGae Jang or the Hwangtae Haejang Soup. Diners often go for stone bowl rice dishes, which come with that pleasantly crispy rice crust from the hot stone pot. Their homemade kimchi and fermented radish serve as sharp, bright accompaniments that balance the deeper flavors of the mains.

This place works well for small groups or solo diners who want a quick, unfussy meal with genuine Korean tastes. Lunch and early dinner times are best to beat queues, as it tends to fill up quickly, especially when colder weather sets in and people crave a warming soup. The service can be a little uneven during busy periods, but the kitchen ensures food arrives hot and satisfying.

The atmosphere is quietly casual, more local hangout than flashy restaurant. It’s not the place for a long, leisurely meal but rather for genuinely good Korean food eaten simply. If you’re strolling around North Road or shopping nearby, Wang Ga Ma offers a familiar, comforting meal with consistent portions and no pretense.

The dishes arrived piping hot, opt for the stone rice – its hot stone bowl yields a satisfyingly crispy layer at the bottom. While the restaurant's interior is pretty small in size, the quick turnaround and efficient service make for a seamless dining experience. They also renovated recently so it looks more clean and fresh. In my opinion, it stands out as one of the better Korean restaurants for soups. Don't miss the complimentary whole kimchi (it’s amazing).

I had a craving for a Korean soup based dinner and this place hit the spot. They get super busy and there’s a line up that can get pretty long if you don’t get there before 6 for dinner. Food wise, if you’re looking for a soup/stew, this is an absolutely solid option. The service is a little bit on the slower side, we got our order and food, but no one else ever came back, so if we wanted more tea or water, we had to go up and ask. This could be because there’s only one or two people on the floor, and it does get busy. Overall, if you can overlook the small flaws, the food is tasty and worth a visit.

This Korean restaurant is a gem, their food is good quality and yet their prices are affordable. It is now our go to Korean restaurant for beef bone soup and stone pot rice, so tasty! They also serve their kimchi and fermented radish store made. So tasty and authentic. Will be coming back for more.

It was a hot day and I just needed some cold noodles in a comfy air conditioned restaurant and this was the place to be. Many choices in this mall and this is the homey one you wanna be in. Flavours were spot on, service was friendly, comfy seating. I'm glad we got in before their last call.

Our fam felt like something “soupy” while in Hanim Shopping Centre, and various shoppers milling about said “go there” - Wang Ga Ma! We were not disappointed, though we need up not having many “soupy” dishes anyways! The pork belly with green onions, kimchee, and steamed greens was very, very yummy, as was the Ox Tail dish. Will recommend!!

Wang Ga Ma 왕가마 delivers authentic Korean cuisine right here in Vancouver. They don't serve a ton of side dishes (banchan 반찬), but their radish kimchi (kkakdugi 깍두기) is a standout. They even provide tools for cutting meat, seafood, veggies, and noodles! Walking into Wang Ga Ma feels like stepping into Korea. Most of the diners are Korean, which is an excellent sign that this spot captures Korea's true flavours and vibe. Their soups and rice are amazing in hot stone bowls (ttukbaegi 뚝배기). The bone soups are super delicious. We've tried several dishes from their menu and always left satisfied. Don't miss the burnt rice tea in the stone pot after your meal — it really completes the experience! Wang Ga Ma is located in Hanin Village. While waiting for a table, we love grocery shopping at H-Mart nearby. This place might be well-known to Koreans, but it could be a hidden gem for others. There's nothing fancy about their menu or entrance, and they don't even have a social media account, but they've been in business for years. That says something. Highly recommend checking Wang Ga Ma out! Food: Should Try! Service: Kids: Yay! (Kids love their japchae 잡채 and their bibimbap 비빔밥) Price: Average $30 per person (Lunch) Presentation: Parking: There is lots of parking, but it can get challenging during peak hours. Tips: No reservations are accepted; expect a short wait for a table. Ideal for small groups or families. Renowned for its hot and delicious soups. Would I Return: Yes

Great spot for Korean food! The cold noodles were the highlight—probably the best I’ve had in the Lower Mainland. The spicy pork bibimbap was solid, and my wife rated the Gam Ja Tang 4/5. Side dishes were simple but tasty. We arrived around 7:30pm on a Friday and only had a short wait.
